Job Description:

Are you looking to join a fast-paced company in a role that will add real value both to individuals and the business? If so, DP World Southampton are recruiting for an experienced HR Business Partner on a 14-month Fixed Term Contract. As a HR Business Partner, you will have your own partnering areas to support and deliver a high level, professional and forward-thinking generalist business partnering approach.

You’ll be detail-oriented, articulate, confident, resilient, and proactive with exceptional interpersonal skills to succeed in this role. You’ll have the ability to work collaboratively with the wider HR team, Union, Occupational Health and your allocated business areas. Whilst it can be demanding at times, you’ll be able to deal with pressure and challenges with ease. You’ll be forward thinking in terms of HR processes and systems and able to keep up with pace and change whilst ensuring accurate processes are followed and accurate records are kept.

Location: Hybrid, Southampton based with travel to Essex twice per month

Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Mon-Fri)

Contract: 14-16 Months

How you will contribute:

  • Deliver local departmental strategies for employee relations and development.
  • Plan and execute projects (e.g., staff surveys, action plans, wellbeing initiatives).
  • Stay updated on industry trends and regulatory changes.

Organisational Development and Design:

  • Coach managers on change delivery (e.g., restructures, consultations).
  • Review and update working agreements and contracts.
  • Identify learning interventions for employees and managers.

Organisational Health:

  • Manage employee relations casework (e.g., absence, disciplinaries, grievances).
  • Monitor and review sickness cases with Line Managers.
  • Administer exit questionnaires and interviews.
  • Drive employee engagement and culture initiatives.

Workforce Planning and Recruitment:

  • Review job descriptions and support recruitment processes.
  • Participate in interviews and administer tests.
  • Prepare offer documentation and deliver inductions.
  • Identify skill gaps and development needs with line managers.

HR Metrics and Data:

  • Use HR metrics and analytics to measure program effectiveness.
  • Identify trends and provide data-driven insights.
  • Create dashboards for evidence-based decisions.

Talent Management and Development:

  • Develop plans for new starters, high performers, underperformers, and successors.
  • Keep succession plans updated.
  • Identify participants for learning programs and provide routine training.
  • Advise and coach managers on probation reviews.
  • Implement HR policies and initiatives promoting high performance.

HR Operations and Compliance:

  • Maintain accurate HR systems and files.
  • Provide HR advice and coaching to ensure compliance with policies and legislation.
  • Develop and update HR policies and procedures.

HR Projects and Initiatives:

  • Support HR Manager, People Director, and teams with HR projects and initiatives.
  • Maintain strong relationships with business units, Union Representatives, and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address HR challenges.
  • Foster relationships with external vendors and industry networks.
  • Travel between DP World Southampton and DP World London Gateway as needed.

What you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources /CIPD Level 7, or demonstrable experience
  • Proven work experience as a strategically focused HR Business Partner or similar role within an operational environment.
  • Experience and proficiency working with HR Systems and data.
  • Proven track record of successfully implementing HR strategies and initiatives that drive organisational growth and effectiveness.
  • An analytical and proactive mindset, with the ability to leverage HR metrics and data to drive insights and influence decision-making.
  • Attention to detail and organisational skills, with experience managing changing priorities and ambiguity.
  • Experience working in a Unionised environment.
  • In-depth understanding and experience effectively managing complex ER cases to resolution.
  • An affirmed understanding regarding CIPD and ACAS best practice and UK employment legislation.
  • Experience working across the full employee lifecycle.
  • A full UK driving licence.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
