Job summary

DS Smith is seeking an HSER Manager for a 12-month FTC based in Launceston, with occasional travel to Newport, Wales. You will lead the site HSER function, embedding a proactive safety and environmental culture to support operational excellence.

You will drive the annual HSER plan and act as the liaison with regulators and insurers. You will collaborate with the site leadership to deliver robust HSER systems, training, audits, and continuous improvement across the business.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering Health & Safety culture across a large business.
• Experience with CDM.
• Excellent persuasion skills with the ability to communicate at all levels.
• Leadership characteristics with the ability to drive change in challenging environments.
• Understanding of ISO standards (e.g., 14001, 45001, 50001).
• Experience providing hands-on training.
• Experience in Management Systems.
• Excellent presentation skills.
• Strong numerical and verbal skills; capable of handling information.
• Fully IT literate; ability to travel to other sites when needed.

Responsibilities

• Champion a strong safety and environmental culture where employees are engaged and accountable.
• Build trusted relationships across all levels to coach and influence safe behaviours.
• Support leadership in delivering the annual HSER improvement plan.
• Deliver HSER training and develop organisational competence.
• Monitor, analyse, and report HSER performance metrics to drive decisions.
• Act as Management Representative for HSER systems, ensuring effectiveness and compliance.
• Manage internal and external audit programmes and coordinate improvements.
• Lead technical risk assessments including PUWER and COSHH compliance.
• Serve as primary HSER contact for regulators and insurers.
