Job summary

DS Smith is seeking an HSER Manager for a 12-month FTC based in Launceston, with occasional travel to Newport, Wales. You will lead the site HSER function, embedding a proactive safety and environmental culture to support operational excellence.

You will drive the annual HSER plan and act as the liaison with regulators and insurers. You will collaborate with the site leadership to deliver robust HSER systems, training, audits, and continuous improvement across the business.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering Health & Safety culture across a large business.
• Experience with CDM.
• Excellent persuasion skills with the ability to communicate at all levels.
• Leadership characteristics with the ability to drive change in challenging environments.
• Understanding of ISO standards (e.g., 14001, 45001, 50001).
• Experience providing hands-on training.
• Experience in Management Systems.
• Excellent presentation skills.
• Strong numerical and verbal skills; capable of handling information.
• Fully IT literate; ability to travel to other sites when needed.

HSER Manager (12-month FTC) Launceston (with occasional travel to Newport, Wales) At DS Smith, safety and sustainability are fundamental to how we operate. As HSER Manager at our Devizes site, you will play a critical leadership role in embedding a proactive safety and environmental culture that supports operational excellence. You will lead and develop the site's Health, Safety, Environmental and Risk (HSER) function, ensuring robust systems, processes, and behaviors are in place to meet legislative requirements, customer expectations, and internationally recognised management standards (ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 50001). Through your expertise and influence, you will position HSER at the forefront of decision-making and daily operations. Working closely with the site leadership team, you will develop and deliver the annual HSER plan, setting measurable objectives and driving continuous improvement. You will act as the management representative for HSER systems, maintaining compliance and serving as the key liaison with regulators and insurers. Beyond the site, you will contribute to the wider central HSER network, helping shape strategy, policy, and best practice across the business.
