Job summary

Service Care Solutions is seeking a Health & Safety Compliance Officer to join a Local Authority in the West Midlands on an ongoing contract. The role focuses on delivering safe and compliant Waste & Recycling services, conducting inspections, investigations and monitoring to promote a positive safety culture.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation, experience in high‑risk environments, and the ability to influence frontline staff across multiple sites.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in Health & Safety in an operational or high‑risk environment.
• Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation including risk assessments and incident investigations.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence frontline operational staff.
• Ability to work independently across multiple operational sites.

Responsibilities

• Ensuring compliance with Health & Safety legislation across Waste & Recycling operations.
• Undertaking depot inspections, operational audits and ride‑alongs with collection crews.
• Carrying out accident, incident and near miss investigations, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
• Developing and reviewing Risk Assessments, Safe Systems of Work and Method Statements.
• Monitoring driver and crew behaviour using vehicle and depot CCTV systems.
• Delivering toolbox talks and identifying staff training requirements.
• Producing compliance reports and recommendations for operational managers.
• Working alongside Fleet, Supervisors and Contractors to ensure safe working practices across the service.
