Job description

HR Specialist

Ulverston | Up to £55,000 DOE & Qualifications | Full-time, Office-based

Are you an experienced HR professional looking for a role where you can genuinely influence how a business develops, supports and retains its people?

Butler Rose HR are working with one of our long-standing clients to recruit an HR Specialist for their established business in Ulverston. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys the variety of a broad HR generalist role, combining hands-on employee support with the opportunity to shape and deliver people-focused initiatives at a senior level.

As the sole HR professional, you will have responsibility for the full employee lifecycle, working closely with the senior leadership team and managers across the business. You will be a trusted point of contact for all people-related matters, providing practical advice, driving improvements and ensuring the business has the right people, processes and policies in place to support its continued success.

What will you be doing?

This is a varied position where no two days are likely to be the same. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Taking ownership of the recruitment process, from identifying staffing requirements and attracting candidates through to selection, onboarding and induction.
  • Working alongside managers to understand workforce requirements, develop talent pipelines and support succession planning.
  • Providing expert guidance on employee relations matters, including disciplinary and grievance procedures, absence management, performance concerns and capability issues.
  • Supporting managers with effective people management, performance reviews, objective setting and employee development.
  • Developing and implementing HR initiatives that improve employee engagement, retention, wellbeing and workplace culture.
  • Advising the leadership team on organisational development, workforce planning and people-related business decisions.
  • Reviewing and maintaining HR policies, procedures and employee documentation to ensure compliance with current employment legislation.
  • Overseeing salary benchmarking, annual pay reviews and employee benefits to ensure reward arrangements remain competitive and consistent.
  • Identifying training needs and coordinating development opportunities to support employee progression and organisational capability.
  • Supporting business change and improvement projects, ensuring employees are effectively communicated with and supported throughout.
  • Maintaining accurate HR records and systems, producing management reports and analysing workforce trends to support decision-making.
  • Working collaboratively with management on wider compliance matters, including Health & Safety requirements.
What are we looking for?

You'll be a confident and approachable HR professional who can operate independently, build strong relationships across the business and balance immediate operational demands with longer-term people priorities.

Ideally, you will bring:

  • CIPD Level 5 qualification or equivalent experience, with Level 7 desirable.
  • Previous experience in a standalone HR position or a broad generalist HR role.
  • A strong understanding of UK employment legislation and confidence managing complex employee relations matters.
  • Experience working with senior stakeholders and advising managers on a wide range of people-related issues.
  • The ability to develop and implement HR processes and initiatives that support business objectives.
  • Experience supporting organisational change, workforce planning and employee development.
  • Confidence producing HR reports, analysing data and presenting recommendations to management.
  • Excellent communication skills, sound judgement and a practical, solutions-focused approach.

Experience within an SME or manufacturing environment would be advantageous, as would exposure to HR systems implementation, process improvement and wider business compliance.

The Details
  • Salary: Up to £55,000 per annum, depending on experience.
  • Location: Ulverston, South Cumbria.
  • Working hours: Full-time, office-based.
  • Travel: Occasional travel to other sites across South Cumbria.

Benefits include -

  • 25 days annual leave + Banks
  • Company Bonus
  • Health Cash Plan

This is an opportunity to step into a highly varied HR position with real ownership, visibility and the ability to make a difference. You'll have the autonomy to shape the people function while working closely with an established leadership team. #IND-LL-25
