Matchtech Group’s client, an established engineering consultancy, seeks an experienced HR Manager to cover a fixed-term assignment for approximately 12 months as the organisation’s primary HR resource. An early start is preferred to enable a thorough handover; the role may extend if required.

The role entails full employee lifecycle support, from recruitment to payroll, and collaboration with finance and wider teams. A proactive, independent generalist with UK practices is ideal.

Qualifications

  • Solid experience in a generalist HR role in a standalone capacity.
  • Strong knowledge of recruitment, onboarding, and payroll.
  • Familiarity with UK employment practices and payroll systems.
  • Proactive, self-sufficient and able to work independently.

  • Ability to handle confidential information securely.

Responsibilities

  • Manage recruitment, onboarding and employee lifecycle processes.

Job description

Our client, an established engineering consultancy, is seeking an experienced HR Manager to provide comprehensive HR cover on a fixed-term basis. This is a broad, hands-on role supporting the full employee lifecycle and working independently as the organisation's primary HR resource. An early start is preferred to allow for a thorough handover, with the assignment expected to continue for approximately 12 months and the potential for an extension if required.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Managing recruitment, onboarding and employee lifecycle processes
  • Providing guidance on employee relations, performance reviews and probationary periods
  • Administering annual leave, sickness absence, timesheets and expenses
  • Maintaining accurate employee records and managing contract changes
  • Supporting annual salary and bonus review processes
  • Preparing and collating payroll information, including overtime, salary changes, address updates and pro-rata salary details
  • Supporting UK right-to-work, employment status and immigration-related matters
  • Working closely with finance and wider teams to ensure accurate and timely HR administration
Job Requirements:
  • Solid experience in a generalist HR role, ideally gained within a standalone or autonomous position
  • Strong knowledge of recruitment, onboarding, employee relations and HR administration
  • Understanding of UK employment practices, right-to-work requirements and payroll processes
  • Proactive, self-sufficient and confident working independently
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Strong attention to detail when handling confidential employee and payroll information
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with finance, management and wider business teams
Additional Information:
  • Fixed-term assignment expected to run for approximately 12 months
  • Earlier commencement is preferred to support a comprehensive handover
  • The role will support a stable recruitment programme, with several potential new starters during the assignment
  • Engineering or consultancy experience is advantageous but not essential, as support will be available from the wider team
  • Both fixed-term and contract working arrangements are being considered
