Job summary

Carrington West is recruiting a Private Sector Housing Enforcement Officer to enhance housing standards in the private rented sector. You will manage investigations, perform inspections and apply enforcement actions to ensure compliance with housing legislation and protect residents from unsafe conditions.

Key duties include gathering evidence, serving statutory notices, and conducting interviews under caution.

Qualifications

• Experience in housing enforcement or environmental health within a local authority.
• Knowledge of housing legislation and regulatory procedures.
• Experience conducting property inspections and investigating complaints.
• Experience preparing enforcement documents and serving statutory notices.
• Full UK driving license for property visits.

Responsibilities

• Investigate complaints relating to housing conditions in the private rented sector.
• Undertake property inspections and site visits to identify hazards and breaches.
• Manage a caseload of enforcement investigations and progress cases.
• Gather evidence, prepare witness statements and maintain records for enforcement decisions.
• Prepare and serve statutory notices and take formal enforcement action when required.
• Undertake interviews under caution in line with PACE and assist with prosecution files.
• Coordinate with landlords, agents and residents to secure improvements using enforcement measures.
• Liaise with internal/external stakeholders to resolve complex cases.
• Provide guidance on housing standards and enforcement options.
