Job summary

Waythrough is hiring a Housing Stability Worker to provide flexible, person-centred support helping people sustain tenancies and avoid homelessness. You will coordinate with housing providers, health services, and local authorities to deliver proactive, holistic support.

The role requires a driving licence and ability to travel to community locations, plus experience in safeguarding and trauma-informed practices. Permanent contract with 37 hours per week.

Qualifications

  • Relevant health and social care qualification or equivalent.
  • Safeguarding training or equivalent; trauma-informed practice.
  • Experience supporting people to sustain accommodation or prevent homelessness.
  • Experience with harm reduction in drug/alcohol use; managing complex needs.

Housing Stability Worker - Likewise

Location: Base location will be Portland House, Sheffield S3 8UG however role will be predominantly outreach based. Driving licence and access to vehicle is essential due to this.

Working Hours: 37 hours per week, 9am-5pm with the requirement to work outside or normal hours when needed.

Contract Type: Permanent

Salary: £25,877.80 - £34,240 per annum

About the role:

To provide flexible, person-centred floating support to individuals with a history of drug and/or alcohol use, helping them to sustain their tenancies, prevent homelessness, and improve overall wellbeing.

Housing Stability Workers will provide intensive tenancy sustainment support for individuals moving on from recovery housing, residential rehabilitation providers, prison, hospital and other settings. They will reduce evictions and tenancy breakdown through proactive, person-centred support.

Key duties will include:
  • Support individuals to maintain safe and stable accommodation
  • Assist with understanding tenancy agreements, rights, and responsibilities
  • Work with landlords, housing providers, and local authorities to prevent eviction
  • Support with rent payments, arrears management, and accessing benefits
  • Work alongside drug and alcohol treatment services to support recovery goals
  • Encourage engagement with treatment, healthcare, and support services
  • Support relapse prevention and crisis planning
  • Complete holistic assessments and risk assessments
  • Develop and review support plans focused on housing stability
  • Deliver tailored interventions based on individual needs
  • Promote independence and progression
  • Identify and respond to safeguarding concerns
  • Manage risks relating to substance use, mental health, and tenancy breakdown
  • Follow organisational safeguarding policies and procedures
  • Work in partnership with services such as housing, probation, health, and social care
  • Advocate on behalf of clients to ensure access to services
  • Maintain accurate, timely case records
  • Monitor outcomes related to tenancy sustainment and wellbeing
  • Contribute to reporting requirements linked to Housing Support Grant
  • Work flexibly, including community visits and lone working
About you:
  • Relevant qualification in health and social care, housing, substance misuse, counselling or related field (NVQ Level 3 or above or equivalent)
  • Trained in safeguarding, trauma-informed practice, motivational interviewing or related approaches
  • Experience of supporting people to sustain accommodation or prevent homelessness
  • Experience and knowledge of harm reduction approaches in relation to drug and alcohol use
  • Experience of managing complex needs (e.g. mental health, offending, trauma)
  • Experience of using case management systems and recording outcomes
  • Experience in completing assessment and recovery planning and risk management plans
  • Understanding of and ability to implement interventions, including brief interventions MI, PSIs, CBT and ITEP
  • Ability to build trusting relationships and engage people
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work in a person centred, strengths-based and trauma informed way
  • Ability to work independently and manage a caseload
  • Ability to develop support plans and identify practical actions to sustain accommodation
  • Ability to undertake regular travel to a range of community locations, including home visits and partner agencies
  • Driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential
