Job summary

Walsall Housing Group is seeking an experienced Housing Solicitor to support and advise on housing-related matters, handling disrepair claims, possession actions and related applications. You will manage a personal caseload while collaborating with the Legal Team to deliver effective outcomes.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years PQE in housing law, excellent drafting and advocacy skills, and a solid understanding of Civil Procedure Rules.

Qualifications

• Qualified Solicitor or FCILEX with 5+ years PQE in housing matters.
• Experience in legal case management relating to housing conditions and drafting court docs.
• Experience in attending County Court hearings and advocacy.
• Knowledge of Civil Procedure Rules and Pre-Action Protocols.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to explain complex legal concepts.

Responsibilities

• Manage a varied caseload of housing management matters (disrepair, possession, injunctions, tenancy issues).
• Prepare cases for court; draft pleadings, witness statements and legal documents.
• Represent whg in hearings across County Court, Magistrates Court and First-tier Tribunal.
• Advise colleagues on legal risks, responsibilities and options in social housing matters.
• Collaborate with operational teams to support service delivery and case outcomes.
• Ensure compliance with legislation, court procedures, CPRs and professional standards.
• Share knowledge and provide updates on changes in law.

Salary: £53,090 - £56,253 per annum plus excellent benefits

Location: Walsall, West Midlands

Contract: Full Time, Permanent, 37 hours per week

We have an exciting opportunity in our Legal Team for an experienced Housing Solicitor to support and advise on housing related matters, housing condition claims and associated applications and claims.

The ideal candidate will have experience of legal case management relating to housing matters eg tenancy breaches, anti-social behaviour and housing condition claims.

Youll support the delivery of legal services to whg by providing advice and representation across a range of housing litigation matters. Working closely with the Housing Litigation Manager and wider Legal team, youll manage your own caseload while contributing to a collaborative, supportive environment.

Main job responsibilities:

• Managing a varied caseload of housing management matters including disrepair, rent possession, injunctions, tenancy succession and neighbourhood issues
• Preparing cases for court, drafting pleadings, witness statements and legal documentation
• Representing whg in hearings across the County Court, Magistrates Court and First-tier Tribunal
• Advising colleagues on legal risks, responsibilities and options relating to social housing
• Working closely with operational teams to support service delivery and case outcomes
• Ensuring compliance with legislation, court procedures, Civil Procedure Rules and professional standards
• Supporting knowledge sharing across the organisation, including informal guidance and updates on changes in law

Required profile

We're looking for someone who has:

• A law degree or other relevant professional qualification.
• Qualified Solicitor orFCILEX with 5+ years PQE, with experience of legal case management relating to housing condition claims, including drafting court applications, defences, witness statements, and with knowledge of the associated Civil Procedure Rules and Pre-Action Protocols.
• Experience of attending, presenting and advocacy in County Court hearings.
• A keen interest in social housing law, including an understanding of relevant legislation and case law.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex legal concepts clearly to colleagues
• A collaborative attitude and be proactive in building strong working relationships.
• Experience in advising on and assisting with litigation, including casework and Court appearances.
• Experience of understanding and implementing Civil Procedure Rules
• Strong organisational and time management skills.
• Experience of court advocacy and case preparation.
• Good legal drafting skills
• Strong organisational skills, accuracy and attention to detail
• Proficiency using legal databases and MS Office suite
• Good research skills
• Committed team player and ability to adapt well to new challenges
• Ability to develop and sustain strong relationships with colleagues and third‑party stakeholders
• The ability to show resilience when dealing with challenging situations.
• Keep up to date of any changes in legislation and court procedures.
• Maintain professional propriety when dealing with customers who may be in a state of distress during court proceedings.
• Experience of using a case management system (desirable)
