Job summary

whg is seeking an experienced Housing Litigation Solicitor to join its in-house legal team on a permanent basis. The role offers flexible hybrid working, a competitive salary, and strong professional development within a collaborative, values-driven environment.

You will manage a varied caseload in social housing law, handle disrepair, possession and injunction matters, and support colleagues with risk assessment and case strategy while remaining compliant with Civil Procedure Rules.

Qualifications

  • Qualified Solicitor or FCILEX with 3–5+ years PQE in housing law.
  • Experience with housing condition claims and Civil Procedure Rules.
  • Experience attending, presenting and advocacy in County Court hearings.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, able to explain complex legal concepts clearly.
  • Experience advising on litigation and managing casework.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a varied caseload of housing management matters including disrepair and possession.
  • Draft pleadings, witness statements and legal documentation.
  • Represent whg in hearings across County Court, Magistrates’ Court and First-tier Tribunal.
  • Advise colleagues on legal risks, responsibilities and options in social housing.
  • Collaborate with operational teams to support service delivery and case outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation, court procedures and professional standards.
  • Support knowledge sharing with informal guidance and updates on changes in law.

Job description

We are working exclusively on an exciting opportunity for a Housing Litigation Solicitor to join the in-house legal team of a well-regarded non-profit housing organisation on a permanent basis. The organisation is seeking a motivated and proactive solicitor who is keen to make a meaningful contribution to the provision of social housing services while developing their housing expertise alongside an experienced and supportive legal team.

  • Working Pattern: Full-time preferred 37 hours

  • Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Key Responsibilities

You will support the delivery of high-quality legal services by providing advice and representation on a broad range of housing litigation matters. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing a varied caseload of housing management matters including disrepair, rent possession, injunctions, tenancy succession and neighbourhood issues
  • Preparing cases for court, drafting pleadings, witness statements and legal documentation
  • Representing whg in hearings across the County Court, Magistrates’ Court and First-tier Tribunal
  • Advising colleagues on legal risks, responsibilities and options relating to social housing
  • Working closely with operational teams to support service delivery and case outcomes
  • Ensuring compliance with legislation, court procedures, Civil Procedure Rules and professional standards
  • Supporting knowledge sharing across the organisation, including informal guidance and updates on changes in law
About You
  • A law degree or other relevant professional qualification.
  • Must be a qualified Solicitor or FCILEX with 3 to 5+ years PQE, with experience of legal case management relating to housing condition claims, including drafting court applications, defences, witness statements, and with knowledge of the associated Civil Procedure Rules and Pre-Action Protocols.
  • Experience of attending, presenting and advocacy in County Court hearings.
  • A keen interest in social housing law, including an understanding of relevant legislation and case law.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex legal concepts clearly to colleagues
  • A collaborative attitude and be proactive in building strong working relationships.
  • Experience in advising on and assisting with litigation, including casework and Court appearances.
  • Experience of understanding and implementing Civil Procedure Rules
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Experience in court advocacy and case preparation.
  • Strong organisational skills, accuracy and attention to detail
  • Proficiency using legal databases and MS Office suite
  • Committed team player and ability to adapt well to new challenges
  • Ability to develop and sustain strong relationships with colleagues and third-party stakeholders
  • The ability to show resilience when dealing with challenging situations.
  • Keep up to date of any changes in legislation and court procedures.
  • Maintain professional propriety when dealing with customers who may be in a state of distress during court proceedings.
  • Experience of using a case management system (desirable)
