Job summary

Durham County Council is seeking a Housing Officer to help prevent homelessness and support people in need. The role involves assessing needs, developing Personal Housing Plans, and coordinating with landlords and partner agencies.

You will carry a varied caseload, meet statutory duties, and contribute to multi-agency work. The position is a maternity cover contract with hybrid working arrangements where applicable.

Qualifications

• Qualified to NVQ Level 2 or equivalent and experience in housing/homelessness or related services.
• Knowledge of housing and homelessness legislation and experience supporting vulnerable people.
• Refer to person specification for full criteria.

Responsibilities

• Support customers who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
• Carry out assessments and manage a caseload.
• Deliver homelessness prevention and relief interventions.
• Work with partner agencies and housing providers to sustain accommodation.
• Ensure statutory duties are met under homelessness legislation.
• Arrange temporary accommodation where required.
• Participate in multi-agency meetings and rough sleeper outreach.
