Job summary

  • Ability to plan, manage and monitor workloads, balancing priorities and deadlines.
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.

Job Description

West Dunbartonshire Council is seeking a motivated and knowledgeable housing professional to join the Housing Development and Homelessness team as Housing Development Officer, supporting the delivery of the Council's Strategic Housing Objectives.

This post plays an important role in contributing to the development, implementation, monitoring and review of the Council's housing strategies and plans, including the Local Housing Strategy, Allocation Policies and Housing Solutions Strategy, ensuring these reflect national policy, legislative requirements and corporate priorities.

As a key member of the Housing Development and Homelessness team, you will support the Housing Development Coordinators and Senior Housing Development Officers, undertaking research and analysis to inform policy and practice, and helping the Council meet its statutory strategic housing authority responsibilities and the Scottish Social Housing Charter regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities will include:
  • Contributing to the development, implementation, monitoring and review of the Council's housing strategies and plans, taking account of national policy, legislation and corporate priorities.
  • Collecting, analysing and reporting statistical and trend information relating to the Scottish Social Housing Charter, housing need and demand, homelessness and housing supply.
  • Undertaking research, and commissioning or managing external research projects, to inform the development of policy and practice.
  • Developing and implementing effective liaison and joint working arrangements with internal departments and external partners to support strategic housing planning.
  • Developing high quality publicity and information on housing options, including material targeted at people who are homeless in housing need or at risk of homelessness.
What We are Looking For?

  • An HND in a Housing related discipline, or relevant experience.
  • Working knowledge of current housing legislation, regulation and good practice principles.
  • Good general knowledge and experience of homelessness.
  • Experience of analysing information and producing reports
  • Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to plan, manage and monitor workloads, balancing conflicting priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
