Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and committed Housing Advice Officer to join our Housing Advice and Homelessness Prevention Team.

You will work directly with individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, often at a difficult and uncertain point in their lives.

You will provide timely, accurate and person-centred housing advice, assess individual circumstances and take practical action to prevent or relieve homelessness wherever possible.

This is a varied and demanding role which requires empathy, sound judgement and the ability to balance supporting customers with applying legislation, council policy and appropriate professional boundaries.

This is a career-graded post at NJC grades 5-7, providing the opportunity to progress as your knowledge, competence and level of responsibility develop. The grade offered will reflect the successful candidate's existing skills, qualifications and experience, in accordance with the council's career-grade arrangements.

At the higher level of the career grade, the postholder will be expected to manage more complex cases independently, provide specialist housing advice and support the development of less experienced colleagues through coaching, mentoring and shared learning.

The role supports agile working but will involve attendance at the office and other locations across North Lincolnshire. The successful candidate must be able to travel around North Lincolnshire in a timely manner and participate in the council's out-of-hours homelessness arrangements when required.

If you are passionate about preventing homelessness, supporting people to achieve sustainable housing outcomes and making a positive difference, we would welcome your application., Candidates must be able to evidence their right to work in the UK. Please note the council does not hold a sponsor licence to sponsor people to work in the UK.

As an employer, we promote and safeguard the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect the same commitment from existing and prospective employees or volunteers. Recruitment to this post will follow our safer recruitment procedure which includes us requesting references prior to interview and a DBS check.
