Job summary

Alderwood Care Home in Dumbarton is seeking a Head Housekeeper to lead our housekeeping and laundry teams, ensuring the highest standards of cleanliness and infection control while supporting residents to feel at home. You will report to the Home Manager and drive delivery of Meallmore’s standards within a caring, safe environment.

The role focuses on team leadership, rota management, stock control and continuous improvement, with a compassionate approach toward residents and staff.

Qualifications

• Head Housekeeper experience preferred; training provided if stepping up.
• Knowledge of cleaning schedules, COSHH, infection control and health & safety.
• Excellent attention to detail, communication and organisation.
• Proactive, ambitious and self-motivated with leadership ability.
• Kind and caring nature when engaging with residents.

Responsibilities

• Lead and inspire housekeeping and laundry teams; ensure cleanliness and infection control.
• Adhere to health and safety protocols to protect residents, visitors, and staff.
• Maintain records and audits for cleaning schedules.
• Manage ordering, stock and budgets.
• Prepare and adjust staff rotas for home needs.
• Support training and mentorship; participate in meetings.
• Provide coaching and supervision to the team.

As head of our housekeeping team, you are fundamental to the smooth running of the home for our residents. You will lead, manage and be accountable for the housekeeping and laundry team to achieve and maintain Meallmore’s standards and compliance with infection control and health & safety procedures. Above all, making our residents feel at home and an environment where they love to live.

Your Role and Responsibilities:

• Reporting to the Home Manager, you will ensure that you lead and inspire your team, promoting high standards of cleanliness and infection control whilst adhering to company policies, Health & Safety and COSHH guidelines.
• Adhere to health & safety protocols to ensure the safety of residents, visitors, and colleagues.
• Maintain accurate records and audits to ensure set cleaning schedules are completed and followed.
• Responsible for ordering and stock management in accordance with budgets.
• Responsible for the housekeeping and laundry teams rotas ensuring they are relevant to the needs of the home.
• Manage training requirements and encourage development opportunities within the team.
• Provide coaching and mentorship to the housekeeping team and participate in meetings / supervisions.

• You will have previous experience as a Head Housekeeper or have the skills to take the next step in your career - we will provide the knowledge required if you have the relevant experience and share our core values.
• Your previous experience will come with knowledge of cleaning schedules, COSHH, infection control and health & safety requirements.
• Excellent attention to detail, good communication skills and organisation.
• Proactive, ambitious and self-motivated with the ability to lead and inspire the team.
