Job summary

Optima in Radstock is seeking a Housekeeping and Waste Management Operative to own housekeeping and waste across the site. This hands-on role focuses on keeping production areas, yards and waste storage clean, safe and efficient.

You will work largely independently, organising daily tasks while responding to priority housekeeping needs. Ideal for someone prideful of high standards, safety-conscious and practical.

Responsibilities

• Managing day-to-day handling of site waste, including cardboard, plastics, general waste and recycling.
• Ensuring waste is correctly segregated, labelled and stored for collection or disposal.
• Operating waste-handling equipment such as balers and compactors safely and per site procedures.
• Supporting and liaising with recycling and waste contractors during scheduled collections.
• Maintaining high standards of housekeeping across production areas, shared spaces, external yards and waste storage areas.
• Cleaning plant and equipment during agreed downtime and following safety procedures.
• Identifying and reporting hazards, spillages, damaged containers and waste contamination.
• Moving waste and materials safely using appropriate manual handling techniques.
• Reporting near misses and promoting a safe, tidy and environmentally responsible workplace.
• Supporting wider site cleaning and housekeeping activities and covering holidays when required.

About the role

We are looking for a Housekeeping & Waste Management Operative to join our team and take ownership of housekeeping and waste management across our site.

This is a hands-on role where you will play an important part in maintaining a clean, safe, tidy and efficient working environment across our production areas, external yards and waste storage areas.

You will work largely independently, organising your day-to-day activities while responding to any priority housekeeping requirements as they arise. The role would suit someone who takes pride in maintaining high standards, has a practical approach to their work and is confident working safely and independently.

What you'll be doing

• Managing the day-to-day handling of site waste, including cardboard, plastics, general waste and recycling.


• Ensuring waste is correctly segregated, labelled and stored ready for collection or disposal.


• Operating waste-handling equipment such as balers and compactors safely and in line with site procedures.


• Supporting and liaising with recycling and waste contractors during scheduled collections.


• Maintaining high standards of housekeeping across production areas, shared spaces, external yards and waste storage areas.


• Cleaning plant and equipment during agreed downtime periods and following the appropriate safe working procedures.


• Identifying and reporting hazards, spillages, damaged containers, waste contamination and other unsafe conditions.


• Moving waste and materials safely using appropriate manual handling techniques and equipment.


• Reporting near misses and helping to promote a safe, tidy and environmentally responsible workplace.


• Supporting wider site cleaning and housekeeping activities where required.


• Providing additional support, including occasional additional hours, where agreed to cover holidays or operational requirements.

Previous experience in a housekeeping, waste management, facilities, warehouse or manufacturing environment would be useful, but we're also interested in candidates with the right practical attitude and willingness to learn.
