Job summary

Injured Jockeys Fund in Malton seeks a friendly Housekeeper to support Jack Berry House Centre Manager. This part-time role (30 hours Mon-Fri 1.30pm-8.00pm) requires reliability, attention to hygiene, and ability to manage laundry, COSHH and infection-control tasks.

You will work on-site, ensure high standards of cleanliness, assist with hospitality events, and uphold health and safety regulations. DBS clearance and right to work in the UK required.

Qualifications

  • Previous housekeeping experience, including laundry, linen management, and use of commercial cleaning equipment.
  • Reliable, professional and detail-oriented with strong organisational and customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of horse racing industry or similar sporting environment is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene throughout the site, observe infection control measures.
  • Replace consumables in kitchenette and respite areas; report faults to Centre Manager.
  • Carry out general laundry duties and operate laundry equipment.
  • Maintain records, COSHH assessments and fire/ COSHH regulations.
  • Assist with hospitality events and ensure security of premises.
  • Support with other duties as required.

Job description

The Injured Jockeys Fund is a charity whose vision and mission is to improve the lives of injured jockeys, past and present, and their families, by providing immediate and ongoing help and support, whether it be physical, emotional, financial, or pastoral.

Jack Berry House is a state-of-the-art rehabilitation and fitness centre operated by the Injured Jockeys Fund. It serves as a vital hub for the Malton racing community, offering physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, gym facilities, and residential support for injured jockeys and other beneficiaries. The centre is known for its welcoming, community-focused atmosphere and commitment to excellence in care and performance.

We are currently seeking a friendly and professional Housekeeper to join our small dynamic team, in a part time capacity. You will provide valuable support to the Centre Manager to aid the day to day running of the centre.

The ideal candidate will be reliable, professional, and detail-oriented, with the ability to maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene while managing housekeeping duties efficiently and safely. Strong organisational, communication, and customer service skills are important, along with flexibility to meet business needs. Previous housekeeping experience, including laundry, linen management, and use of commercial cleaning equipment, is desirable, as is knowledge of the horse racing industry or a similar professional sporting environment.

Hours: 30 hours per week Monday to Friday 1.30pm-8.00pm (30 minute break)

Principle duties and responsibilities:

  • To maintain the agreed standard of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the site observing all infection control measures. To replace consumable items in the kitchenette and respite areas as required, strictly observing health and safety laws. To report any faults to equipment/premises to the Centre Manager. To report damaged or stained carpet/upholstery/soft furnishings to the Centre Manager. To report lost property/valuable property found. To carry out general laundry duties including arranging collection and delivery of laundry. Operating laundry equipment, including washer, dryer and iron. To have an awareness of the importance of all statutory and standards compliance (CQC) that the IJF work within and to recognise the impact housekeeping has with regards to that compliance. To maintain records and assessments associated with housekeeping duties such as COSHH assessments. Legionella testing to include including monthly de-scaling of showers and checking water temperatures as required and recording as recognised within the Housekeeper’s role and responsibilities To observe all fire, health and safety/COSHH regulations and promote good safety habits. Have a full awareness of all fire and evacuation procedures. To maintain cleaning records and supervise other cleaning staff. To maintain and assist with all security. i.e keys, stock, equipment, fixtures, fittings and premises To cover associated housekeeping duties and assisting with hospitality events as required. To maintain a high standard of personal hygiene with special attention to hands, hair care and appearance. To ensure a high standard of customer care. Reporting problems or complaints to the Centre Manager. To carry out other duties outside the normal daily/weekly routine, but within the scope of the position.
