Job summary

Sodexo in Colchester is seeking a part-time Housekeeper to support our Healthcare team at Colchester Hospital. You will help maintain high cleaning standards, assist with meal services, and ensure wards and clinical areas remain clean, safe and welcoming for patients, visitors and staff.

The role is 20 hours per week, Monday to Friday 16:00-20:00, at £12.92 per hour with enhancements for night shift. We value compassion, teamwork and a commitment to infection prevention and safety.

Qualifications

• Positive attitude and commitment to excellent customer service.
• Good communication and ability to work with diverse people.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
• Flexible schedule, including weekend rotas when required.
• Understanding of health, safety, infection control and hygiene standards.
• Physical capability for duties including manual handling.
• Previous housekeeping/cleaning/healthcare experience is advantageous.
• NHS or healthcare sector experience is desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high standards of cleaning and housekeeping across wards and spaces.

• Follow infection prevention procedures and use PPE correctly.
• Replenish supplies in hospital areas and manage waste safely.

• Demonstrate compassion and professionalism with patients and colleagues.
• Support day-to-day hospital operations through teamwork and service delivery.

Job Introduction

What You'll Do

• Deliver high standards of cleaning and housekeeping across wards, clinical areas, offices, meeting rooms, and communal spaces.


• Support patient meal and beverage services in line with Food Hygiene Regulations and healthcare standards.


• Help maintain a safe, clean, and hygienic environment for patients, visitors, and staff.


• Follow infection prevention and control procedures, including the correct use of PPE and cleaning equipment.


• Replenish essential supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet rolls throughout the hospital.


• Collect and manage waste safely in accordance with healthcare waste management procedures.


• Assist with stock control and ensure cleaning cupboards remain organised and fully stocked.


• Report maintenance issues, faults, and health and safety concerns promptly.


• Demonstrate compassion and professionalism when interacting with patients, families, and colleagues.


• Support the smooth day-to-day operation of the hospital environment through teamwork, flexibility, and excellent service delivery.
