Salary - £24,552.21 plus Serco benefits

Main Purpose:

Reporting to the Soft Services supervisors, the position will be responsible for providing a high-quality Portering service to all patients, visitors, staff members, and other stakeholders. This includes handling equipment, waste, blood products, medical gases, pharmaceutical products, furniture, mail, goods, and materials. Additionally, maintaining floors using machinery and performing other reasonable tasks in a safe and efficient manner. The role embodies Serco’s CARE values and behaviors.

Main Accountabilities:

This role involves delivering a high-quality Portering service to the Trust, ensuring tasks are carried out in a dignified, safe, and efficient manner:

Core

  • Care and movement of equipment throughout the site to ensure smooth hospital operations, including furniture movement. Responsible for internal & external patrols, responding to security situations, following policies and procedures, maintaining cleanliness, and assisting patients, visitors, and staff with queries.

Portering

  • Performing general and ad-hoc tasks such as moving mattresses, pharmaceutical and blood products, medical gases, and confidential records. Ensuring safe storage and maintenance of stock, medical gases, and supplies, adhering to health and safety regulations. Operating wheelchairs, trolleys, and beds safely.

Health and Safety

  • Reporting faults, defects, accidents, or near misses immediately, completing incident forms, and following health, safety, security, and infection control policies.

Other Responsibilities

  • Using communication equipment properly, operating within task timeframes, and liaising with Helpdesk and Supervisors. Being adaptable to new technologies, maintaining personal hygiene and appearance, and executing other reasonable requests to ensure efficient service delivery.
