Job summary

University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust currently seeks a Pharmacy Stores Assistant to join the team. The role covers daily top ups of medicines, ward deliveries, and receiving medicines from wholesalers, with responsibilities across the hospital site.

The post requires a physical role with manual handling and occasional weekend work. Preference given to those with NVQ level 2 in Pharmaceutical science or willingness to obtain it, and a commitment to GPhC training.

Qualifications

• NVQ level 2 in Pharmaceutical science (or equivalent) preferred or willing to work towards
• Role is physical with manual handling; lifting 6–20 kg and pushing/pulling with mechanical aids
• One year's commitment to training as required by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
• Ability to work across a hospital site and on early start shifts
• Weekend shifts 1 in 5 and occasional Bank Holiday work

Responsibilities

• To complete ward top ups and deliver orders
• Receive, receipt and store medicines received from wholesalers/suppliers
• Conduct ward stock top-ups and audit stock levels
• Manage ward stock control and inform staff of stock concerns
• Process items for return/recycling under ward pharmacist direction
• Receive goods from delivery drivers and store/process via computer system
• Carry out scheduled stock sweeps and expiry date checks
• Assist in housekeeping and stock rotation in MDU/Dispensary
• Ensure requests and prescriptions are prioritised appropriately
• Attend Pharmacy team and staff meetings and contribute to objectives
• Support appraisal and personal development plans and mandatory training
• Maintain health and safety and confidentiality at all times
• Treat colleagues and patients with respect and dignity
