Job summary

University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust in England invites an enthusiastic Optometrist to join the Ophthalmology department based mainly at Royal Bournemouth Hospital, with flexible full- or part-time arrangements.

Core duties include assessing new and current patients in the contact lens service, with therapeutic fittings and aftercare, plus paediatric refraction with/without cycloplegia. Opportunities to work in glaucoma and macula clinics, and in Eye Emergency Department, may arise.

Qualifications

• BSc in Optometry and General Optical Council registration is required.
• Experience in contact lens practice is desirable.
• Independent prescribing qualification is advantageous.
• On-the-job training and supervision will be provided.
• Part-time applications considered for a minimum of 1 day per week.
• Potential IP/Glaucoma/macula clinics and Eye Emergency Department involvement.

Responsibilities

• Assess patients in core clinics including contact lens service with therapeutic fittings and aftercare.
• Perform paediatric refraction with and without cycloplegia at RBH and possibly other local hospitals.
• Work in specialist clinics (e.g., Glaucoma, Macula) and Eye Emergency Department as needed.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of Optometrists, Consultant Ophthalmologists, Orthoptists, Ophthalmic Nurses and support staff.
• May require travel between sites and adaptation to service relocations.
