Job summary

Equans is seeking a Fabric Maintenance Technician to join the hospitals estates team in Portsmouth. The role involves planned, preventive and reactive maintenance across hospital facilities, with on-call rota participation and a focus on safe, compliant work within HTMs and local standards.

You will carry out carpentry, painting, decorating, flooring, and other fabric tasks while liaising with departments and contractors to ensure timely, quality maintenance.

Qualifications

• NVQ or City & Guilds Craft Certificate relevant to the trade.
• Experience in fabric, building or estates maintenance.
• Broad range of practical maintenance skills.
• Ability to diagnose faults and complete repairs safely and effectively.
• Willingness to undertake additional training and develop new skills.
• Ability to work shifts and participate in an on-call rota.
• Good communication and customer-service skills.
• Ability to work in unpleasant or challenging environments.
• A strong commitment to health, safety and compliance.
• Flexibility to undertake reasonable duties outside your core trade.
• DBS to PVG Level clearance.

Responsibilities

• Support Estates Management in delivering a 24-hour maintenance service.
• Carry out planned, preventative and reactive maintenance, repairs, testing and installation work.
• Diagnose faults and repair or maintain complex equipment.
• Follow HTMs, legislation and hospital engineering standards.
• Perform broad fabric tasks: carpentry, painting, ironmongery, flooring, general maintenance.
• Respond promptly to maintenance requests and participate in on-call rota.
• Liaise with internal departments, service partners and contractors.
• Check and monitor contractors’ work for safety and standards.
• Coordinate with Stores for materials and requisitions.
• Promote a culture of customer service and maintain competence.
