Job summary

Equans is seeking a Fabric Maintenance Technician at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth. This permanent, full-time role offers a salary of £31,000 per annum plus an excellent benefits package.

You will support a 24-hour estates maintenance service across Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust, performing planned and reactive maintenance, testing and installation work on hospital buildings and equipment.

Qualifications

• NVQ or City & Guilds Craft Certificate relevant to the trade or similar recognised qualification.
• Experience in fabric, building or estates maintenance.
• Broad range of practical maintenance skills.
• Ability to diagnose faults and perform repairs safely.

Responsibilities

• Support Estates Management in delivering a 24-hour maintenance service.

Job description

E quans is looking for a Fabric Maintenance Technician to join our team at the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth. This is a permanent, full-time role working on average 40 hours per week. On offer is a salary of £31,000 per annum and in addition you will receive an excellent benefits package.

We is seeking a skilled and adaptable Fabric Maintenance Technician to support the delivery of a safe, reliable and responsive 24-hour estates maintenance service across Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust.

You will undertake planned and preventative maintenance, testing, repairs and installation work across a wide range of hospital buildings, equipment and services. The role requires a strong customer-service focus, a flexible approach and the ability to work effectively in a complex healthcare environment.

You will also be required to work shift patterns and participate in the Fabric Team on-call rota.

What will you deliver?

• Support Estates Management in delivering a 24-hour maintenance service.
• Carry out planned, preventative and reactive maintenance, repairs, testing and installation work.
• Diagnose faults and repair or maintain complex equipment following appropriate training and guidance.
• Work in accordance with Health Technical Memoranda (HTMs), relevant legislation and hospital engineering standards.
• Undertake a broad range of fabric and building tasks, including:
  • Carpentry
  • Painting and decorating
  • Fitting ironmongery
  • Flooring repairs and installation
  • General building maintenance
• Carry out work associated with other trades where required, using an appropriate level of competence outside your core trade.
• Respond promptly to maintenance requests using a radio or pager.
• Participate actively in the Fabric Team on-call rota.
• Liaise with internal departments, external customers, service partners and contractors regarding maintenance issues.
• Check and monitor contractors’ work to ensure it is completed safely and to the required standard.
• Liaise with the Stores Team regarding the requisition, supply, deployment and security of materials.
• Complete all required training and maintain competence relevant to the role.
• Promote a positive culture of customer service.
• Undertake other reasonable duties relevant to the position, as directed by the Line Manager, Senior Operations Manager or Head of Estates.

Who are we looking for?

You will be a practical, dependable and customer-focused maintenance professional with experience in building or fabric maintenance. You should be comfortable working independently, responding to urgent issues and collaborating with colleagues and contractors.

You will also need:

• NVQ or City & Guilds Craft Certificate relevant to the trade or similar recognised tradeCertificate.
• Experience in fabric, building or estates maintenance.
• A broad range of practical maintenance skills.
• The ability to diagnose faults and complete repairs safely and effectively.
• A willingness to undertake additional training and develop new skills.
• The ability to work shifts and participate in an on-call rota.

• A strong commitment to health, safety and compliance.
• The flexibility to undertake reasonable duties outside your core trade where required.
• Due to nature of the role the successful candidate will be required to obtain DBS to PVG Level.
