Job summary

The Ministry of Justice (HMPPS) is seeking a supervisor for Land Based Activities and Horticulture in a prison environment. You will guide prisoners, oversee planting, harvesting and conservation, and deliver practical training to help them gain qualifications.

Responsibilities include safety training, machinery operation, and maintaining a respectful, secure community within the establishment. Relevant qualifications and supervisory experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience in horticulture and grounds maintenance with machinery operation.
• Familiarity with safety standards and COSHH controls is desirable.
• Supervisory experience and ability to train prisoners is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Supervise prisoners in land-based activities and horticulture areas to meet targets.
• Maintain grounds, perform planting, cropping, harvesting, and conservation tasks.
• Instruct prisoners in health and safety, machinery use, and COSHH awareness.
• Induct prisoners and assess qualifications for vocational training.
• Ensure a safe, positive working environment and adherence to policies.
