Job summary

Responsibilities

• Carry out a full range of horticultural activities, giving instruction to prisoners on land-based activity duties including use of machinery.
• Maintain the establishment's grounds and conservation areas including lawns, ponds, water features, hard and soft landscaping, paving, turf and external grounds including woodland where appropriate.
• Deliver actions from the MoJ Biodiversity Strategy and develop the establishment's conservation areas.
• Undertake small project work as advised.
• Supervise prisoners in the work area, ensuring targets are met, preserving discipline, and maintaining a safe, positive working environment; may involve selection of prisoners and managing their pay.
• Inducting prisoners and training them in Health and Safety, COSHH, machinery and tools usage within the area of work.
