At Leicester City Council, our Homelessness Prevention and Support teams work in a fast-paced environment to ensure that we try and stop homelessness from impacting on individuals and families. We achieve this by adhering to national legislation and guidance on homelessness and our own local well-developed policies and procedures.

Would you like the opportunity to join our team as a Homelessness Support Officer? You will play a key role in providing administrative support to a front line services for customers who have housing related support needs. You will work alongside a team of Temporary Accommodation Officers and Transitions Workers who provide the front line services.

No matter what role you do in our service area, no two days are the same and this is what keeps working with us exciting.

Join us and you'll find yourself working in a supportive team who are passionate, dedicated, and dynamic - working incredibly hard to ensure everyone has a place to call home.

This is a full time, permanent position working 37 hours per week Monday to Friday. You'll have flexibility in hybrid working being both office based, at the Dawn Centre or working remotely from home to suit the needs of service.

What you’ll be doing

In this role, you'll provide vital day-to-day administrative support to the Temporary Accommodation Service, helping to ensure the team operates efficiently and residents receive a seamless service. You'll be responsible for maintaining accurate records and documentation using Microsoft Excel and Word, processing temporary accommodation extension requests, and raising invoices and requisitions through the finance system. You'll also provide a wide range of ad-hoc administrative support to the team, responding flexibly to changing priorities and service needs. As part of the role, you'll attend Absence Management and Disciplinary meetings, taking clear and accurate minutes to support effective record-keeping and decision-making.

What you’ll need

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong organisational skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Experience using Microsoft Office applications, strong communication skills, and a proactive, professional approach to administration will be essential for success.

To thrive in this role, you'll be someone who enjoys working independently, using your initiative to solve problems and make decisions with minimal supervision. You'll have a genuine interest in supporting people experiencing homelessness and understand both the rewards and challenges that come with working in this environment.

You’ll be naturally organised and able to stay calm under pressure, effectively managing competing priorities in a fast-paced and demanding setting. A keen eye for detail is essential, particularly when reviewing information and data, enabling you to identify trends, spot discrepancies and make informed decisions.

Most importantly, you'll bring a positive attitude, resilience and a willingness to learn and develop. And while not essential, a good sense of humour will certainly help-you'll be joining a team that values professionalism, teamwork and the ability to find positivity even on the most challenging days.

A good sense of humour will help.

So, are you ready to take that step and make that difference?
