Job summary

Depaul UK in Haringey is seeking an Assistant Homelessness Support Worker to help residents move forward, linking them with housing, health, employment and wellbeing services. It is a rota‑based full‑time, permanent role with a 37.5‑hour week.

You will work hands‑on to provide crisis intervention when needed, maintain records, and support clients to develop independence in a compassionate, values‑led environment.

Qualifications

• Some experience of dealing directly with the public and/or clients or customers in a busy service environment.
• Some experience of dealing with complex and difficult behaviours in relation to people.
• Personal experience of homelessness and/or an understanding of and empathy with the issues faced by those experiencing homelessness and the ability to maintain enthusiasm for a high level of contact with clients on a day‑to‑day basis.
• Understanding of the importance of discretion and confidentiality in relation to work and maintaining professional boundaries.
• Commitment to working in a manner which promotes diversity and equality ensuring that everyone is treated with respect and dignity, and no‑one suffers from discrimination.
• Commitment to promoting an environment which has the highest regard for the health and safety of others.
• Good literacy, numeracy and IT skills, to maintain clear and accurate records.
• Ability to reflect on own practices for ongoing learning and development.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate across diverse cultures and backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• To provide day‑to‑day support to residents and connect them with housing, health, welfare and wellbeing services.
• To cover reception tasks, handling phones, cash, post and enquiries.
• To lead on health and safety checks and liaise with contractors.
• To support clients with assessing and meeting their immediate needs, including crisis intervention.
• To coordinate appointments with GP/DWP/Probation and accompany clients to services.
• To advise on housing, welfare benefits and related issues.
• To keywork a small caseload under supervision.
• To manage challenging behaviours safely and summon assistance when necessary.
• To maintain accurate records and reports, including serious incident reports.
• To prepare accommodation for new clients and help them settle in.
• To participate in team meetings and ongoing training and development.
