Job summary

Niyaa People Ltd is seeking an experienced Housing Options Officer for our Solihull-based Homelessness and Housing Advice Service. This temporary 13-week role supports individuals and families facing homelessness, guiding them from initial contact through to outcome.

You will apply strong knowledge of homelessness legislation, conduct statutory assessments, and manage complex cases with a focus on practical housing solutions and compliance.

Qualifications

• Experience conducting homelessness interviews and detailed assessments.
• Proven ability to make statutory homelessness decisions under Part VII of the Housing Act 1996.
• Knowledge of the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 and related duties.
• Strong interviewing, communication and case management skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct homelessness interviews and assess applicants' housing circumstances and eligibility.
• Manage complex homelessness cases under statutory duties (Parts VII, 189A, 195, 189B, 193).
• Apply prevention and relief duties for households threatened with homelessness within 56 days.
• Develop personalised housing plans in line with Section 189A.
• Determine eligibility, homelessness status, priority need and intentionality.
• Consider local connections and referrals to other authorities.
