Job summary

Cornwall Council is seeking a dedicated Homeless Prevention Outreach Caseworker to prevent homelessness under the Housing Act. You will manage a complex caseload, assess housing needs, gather evidence and make statutory decisions with clear, legally robust letters and records.

The role combines outreach, housing advice, casework and collaboration with partners to secure sustainable accommodation for vulnerable households.

Qualifications

• Manage a caseload of homeless or threatened households ensuring statutory duties are fulfilled.
• Conduct detailed assessments to establish eligibility, priority need and local connections.
• Gather, verify and evaluate information from applicants, landlords and partners.
• Prepare clear, legally compliant decision letters and case records.

Responsibilities

• Undertake homelessness assessments and respond to households in need.
• Develop, implement and review Personalised Housing Plans.
• Collaborate with landlords, agencies and health partners to secure housing solutions.
• Maintain accurate case records and ensure information governance.
• Monitor case progression to meet statutory timescales and targets.
• Exercise professional judgement in complex cases and defend decisions.
• Contribute to service development, audits and quality assurance activities.
