Job summary

Acklen Pierce Company is seeking an experienced Homelessness Caseworker for a London Local Authority. You will manage a caseload, assess housing needs, determine eligibility, and perform statutory decisions under the Housing Act 1996 and Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.

You will liaise with landlords, housing providers, social care and other agencies to secure suitable housing solutions, while maintaining robust case records and ensuring compliance with legislation.

Qualifications

• Experience managing a caseload of homeless households.
• Strong knowledge of Housing Act 1996 and Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
• Excellent communication and decision-making skills.
• Experience working with vulnerable households and multi-agency partners.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of homeless households, assessing housing needs and determining eligibility under the Housing Act 1996 and Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
• Conduct homelessness assessments and investigations, including prevention and relief duties.
• Develop and review Personalised Housing Plans (PHPs) and provide appropriate housing advice and support.
• Make decisions in relation to statutory homelessness duties, including interim and main housing duties.
• Source and arrange suitable temporary accommodation where required.
• Liaise with landlords, housing providers, social care, support services and other agencies to secure appropriate housing solutions.
• Maintain accurate case records and ensure all decisions and actions are recorded in line with legislation and council procedures.
• Manage complex and vulnerable cases, including safeguarding, affordability and suitability considerations.
• Work towards preventing homelessness and securing sustainable housing outcomes for residents.

Requirements:

• Previous experience working as a Homelessness Officer, Housing Options Officer, Homelessness Caseworker or similar within a Local Authority.
• Strong knowledge of the Housing Act 1996 and Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
• Experience completing homelessness assessments and making statutory decisions.
• Good understanding of prevention and relief duties, PHPs and temporary accommodation.
• Excellent communication, case management and decision-making skills.
• Experience working with vulnerable households and multi-agency partners.
• Strong IT, administration and case recording skills.
