Job summary

Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking compassionate Home Support Assistants to help older people and adults with disabilities live independently at home across the borough.

Join a multidisciplinary team delivering person-centred care in homes and community settings, with a rota that includes evenings, weekends and bank holidays. A rewarding role with training and progression opportunities in Adult Social Care.

Qualifications

• Passionate about supporting vulnerable adults.
• Caring, patient and respectful; able to work independently.
• Effective communicators who work with a dispersed team.
• Calm and dependable in challenging situations.
• Maintain confidentiality and safeguarding standards.
• Flexible shifts, evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
• Experience with older people or disabilities encouraged.
• Willing to achieve NVQ Level 2 in Care and training.
• Able to travel across the borough.
• Age 18 or over; full UK driving licence helpful.

Responsibilities

• Support personal care and meal preparation, promoting healthy living.
• Support and, where appropriate, administer medication.
• Encourage confidence, independence and wellbeing.
• Assist mobility and exercise programs prescribed by professionals.
• Monitor wellbeing and report significant changes.
• Maintain records and complete risk assessments.
• Promote dignity, privacy and independence at all times.
