Job summary

Sodexo Justice Services is expanding its Prison Custody Officer team at HMP Forest Bank in Salford. This role focuses on safety, security and supporting prisoners to develop skills for life after custody. You’ll create a respectful environment and act as a trusted Key Worker for inmates.

You’ll join a professional team, receive comprehensive training including an 8-week programme, and work to reduce reoffending while helping prisoners progress through education and employment pathways.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining the safety, security and wellbeing of prisoners, staff and visitors.

Salary: £32,863.57 per annum, increasing after 12 months to £34,341.41, with a further salary increase after 4 years’ service

Your Role as a Prison Custody Officer

As a Prison Custody Officer, you’ll play a vital role in the daily operation of the prison by:

  • Maintaining the safety, security and wellbeing of prisoners, staff and visitors.
  • Supervising prisoner movements and ensuring all prisoners are accounted for throughout the day.

Training and Development

You don’t need prior experience to apply. You’ll receive a comprehensive 8-week training programme, delivered locally, to fully prepare you for the role. This includes:

  • Classroom and practical learning.
  • Conflict resolution and communication training.
  • Shadowing experienced officers.
  • Continued development and support throughout your career.
Recruitment Process

As part of the recruitment process, you’ll be invited to attend one of our assessment centres, designed to give you the opportunity to demonstrate the skills and behaviours needed to become a Prison Custody Officer, while also giving you a better understanding of what it’s like to work at HMP Forest Bank.
The assessment centre consists of two stages:

  • Scenario-Based Exercises – Giving you the opportunity to demonstrate your judgement, communication, teamwork and decision-making through realistic prison-based scenarios.
  • Competency-Based Interview – An opportunity to discuss your experience, strengths and motivation for joining Sodexo.

Throughout the day, you’ll also have the opportunity to meet members of the team, ask questions and gain a real insight into life as a Prison Custody Officer. Our assessment centres are designed to be supportive, engaging and give every candidate the opportunity to demonstrate their potential.
