HORIBA MIRA in Nuneaton is seeking a Senior Technician to join the HSPI team on a 12-month contract (Inside IR35). This hands-on role supports the preparation and delivery of vehicle, safety and security testing programmes while guiding technicians across the facility.

You will coordinate daily activities and provide on-the-job training, while helping with calibration, maintenance and workshop compliance in a dynamic, outdoor testing environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience leading or coordinating colleagues in a technical/workshop environment.
  • Level 4/HNC in mechanical or engineering qualification (e.g., City & Guilds).
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Attention to detail and proactive problem solving.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Experience in testing, R&D, instrumentation, calibration management or safety activities is advantageous but not essential.

Job description

We're looking for a Senior Technician to join our Highway Safety & Protection of Infrastructure (HSPI) team in Nuneaton on a 12-month contract (Inside IR35). This is a hands-on role supporting the preparation and delivery of vehicle, safety and security testing programmes, while providing day-to-day guidance and support to technicians across the facility. You'll play a key role in ensuring testing activities are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards.

This could be an excellent opportunity for someone with a workshop, testing or engineering background who enjoys practical problem-solving, coordinating activities and working within a dynamic test environment. You'll have the opportunity to support a wide range of vehicle, safety and infrastructure testing programmes while helping to drive continuous improvement across the facility.

Please note; this role involves working outdoors in all weathers.

Key responsibilities
  • Support the preparation of vehicles, test assets and facilities for vehicle, safety and security testing.
  • Coordinate daily activities and allocate tasks across the technician team.
  • Provide guidance, support and on-the-job training to technicians and junior team members.
  • Support calibration, maintenance and workshop compliance activities.
  • Help maintain high standards of health, safety and environmental compliance across the facility.
  • Support stock control, equipment readiness and operational efficiency.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of test methods, facilities and ways of working.
What you'll need
  • Experience leading, mentoring or coordinating colleagues within a technical, workshop or testing environment.
  • A Level 4/HNC in a mechanical or engineering qualification, such as City & Guilds.

Please be aware that interviews for this role will be taking place 6th October 2026 between 0900hrs - 1300hrs at the MIRA Technology Institute.

  • This is a 12-month contract (Inside IR35).
  • Working 39 hours per week.
  • Rate: Up to £21 per hour, depending on skills and experience.
  • Roles requires working outside in all weathers
  • Security clearance will be required for this role due to the nature of work.
