Job summary

HORIBA MIRA is seeking a hands-on Technician to join the Crash Laboratory team in Nuneaton on a 12-month contract (Inside IR35). You will prepare the lab, set up tests and assist with post-test activities, working alongside engineers and technicians in a fast-paced lab environment.

The role involves shift work and 39 hours per week with allowances from week 13. A vehicle workshop background and NVQ/City & Guilds Level 3 in Automotive or Engineering are preferred.

Job description

We're looking for a Technician to join our Crash Laboratory team in Nuneaton on a 12-month contract (Inside IR35). This is a hands‑on role supporting the preparation, set‑up and execution of vehicle crash tests within a fast‑paced and dynamic laboratory environment. Working alongside experienced engineers and technicians, you'll play a key role in ensuring tests are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards. This could be an excellent opportunity for someone with a vehicle workshop, automotive or test facility background who enjoys practical, problem‑solving work and wants to be involved in cutting‑edge vehicle safety testing. Please note; this role involves working shifts. Appropriate allowances will be paid from week 13.

Key responsibilities
  • Prepare the crash laboratory and equipment for testing activities.
  • Support test set‑up, execution and post‑test activities.
  • Operate and support specialist crash test equipment and instrumentation.
  • Work closely with engineers and technicians to ensure tests are delivered safely and efficiently.
  • Carry out laboratory maintenance, equipment checks and housekeeping activities.
  • Support continuous improvement, quality and health & safety initiatives across the facility.
  • Follow laboratory procedures, quality standards and safe systems of work.
What you'll need
  • Experience working in a vehicle workshop, automotive environment or similar technical setting.
  • A qualification in an Automotive or Engineering discipline, such as NVQ or City & Guilds Level 3.
  • Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to work.
  • Ability to work effectively in a changing environment and manage multiple tasks.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • A willingness to learn new skills and contribute to a continuous improvement culture.

Experience of crash testing, vehicle safety systems, instrumentation or test facilities would be advantageous but is not essential.

  • This is a 12 months contract – Inside IR35
  • Working 39 hours a week
  • Hourly rate – £17 – 19 p/hr inclusive of holiday – rate awarded based on skills and experience
  • Full drivers licence required
  • Shift working will be required. – Appropriate allowances will be paid from week 13.

Please be aware that interviews for this role will be taking place 6th, 7th and 8th October 2026 between 1430hrs - 1530hrs at the MIRA Technology Institute.
