Job summary

City of Peterborough Academy is seeking an enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our diverse and inclusive school community. You will lead learning activities, support pupil progress and collaborate with teachers to create a positive learning environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting teaching and learning in a school environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to inspire, motivate and engage children and young people.
  • Commitment to inclusion and supporting pupils with diverse needs.
  • Strong organisational and classroom management abilities.
  • Confident using ICT to support learning.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Positive and proactive approach to work.
  • Committed to safeguarding and promoting welfare of children.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver learning activities to individuals, small groups, and classes under teaching staff guidance.
  • Assess pupils' needs and support learning and achievement.
  • Establish positive relationships with pupils and model high expectations.
  • Promote inclusion and ensure equal access to learning opportunities.
  • Encourage pupil participation and positive peer interactions.
  • Foster independence, confidence and resilience; reward achievement.
  • Organise and manage learning environments and resources.
  • Monitor and evaluate pupil progress; provide feedback to staff.
  • Support behaviour management strategies and self-discipline.
  • Prepare lesson materials and learning resources in line with plans.
  • Produce lesson plans and assist with administration, marking and assessment.
  • Use ICT to enhance learning and develop digital skills.
  • Support safeguarding, health and safety and data protection policies.
  • Contribute to school ethos and wider aims; share expertise with colleagues.
