Job summary

Broadfield Specialist School is seeking a highly skilled Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our dedicated team in Burnley. This role supports pupils with a wide range of SEND, including those needing intensive levels of support, to enable positive academic and social outcomes.

You will have substantial SEND experience, be adept at de-escalation, emotional regulation, and TEAM TEACH approaches, and work closely with teachers, therapists and families to promote independence and

Qualifications

• HLTA status or equivalent recognised qualification.
• Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning, Childcare, Education, or a related field.
• Desirable: Team Teach or equivalent behaviour support training.
• Desirable: Makaton, PECS, training.
• Desirable: First Aid at Work or Paediatric First Aid qualification.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality learning activities and interventions under the direction of teaching staff.
• Provide intensive support for pupils with complex SEND needs.
• Support pupils displaying challenging behaviours using TEAM TEACH positive behaviour support approaches.
• Implement emotional regulation strategies to help pupils develop self-awareness, resilience and coping skills.
• Model and promote effective communication and interaction strategies.
• Lead small group/whole-class learning activities as directed by the teacher.
• Contribute to pupil assessment, progress monitoring and review processes.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, families and external professionals to support individual pupil outcomes.
• Maintain a safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment.
