Job summary

Shaw Education Trust’s St Andrew's View in Derby is seeking a highly motivated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our specialist school community. The role supports KS3–KS4 and some 16–19 students, delivering high-quality learning with teachers and support staff.

The HLTA will lead activities, adapt lessons to diverse needs, and help students develop academic, social, and life skills. The FTC runs until 31 August 2027, with a 35-hour week and inset days across our Derby sites.

Qualifications

• Experienced Teaching Assistant or HLTA with strong understanding of supporting young people with additional needs.
• Confident in leading learning and working independently when required.
• Able to build strong relationships with students.
• Calm, patient, resilient and consistent in approach.
• Creative and flexible with individual needs.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality learning and support for students alongside teaching staff.
• Lead learning activities and classes when required in line with planning and objectives.
• Provide targeted support for students with a range of needs.
• Support students to develop academic, social, emotional and life skills.
• Adapt activities to meet individual student needs.
• Build positive relationships and encourage independence and resilience.
• Support behaviour management and a calm learning environment.
• Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
• Contribute to development of individual learning plans.
• Participate in whole-school life and routines.
