Job summary

Prospero Teaching in Sunderland is seeking an experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant to support pupils across KS3 to KS5, delivering planned lessons and targeted interventions. You will work closely with teaching staff to maintain high standards of learning and behaviour.

The role is full-time, temporary with potential to go permanent, starting September 2026, and pays 110–140 GBP per day. Ideal for a proactive, organized education professional with HLTA status and UK right to work.

Qualifications

• HLTA status or equivalent qualification/experience.
• Experience working within a school setting, ideally at secondary level.
• Experience delivering lessons and supporting whole-class learning.
• Strong understanding of the secondary curriculum.
• Ability to confidently manage classroom behaviour and engage learners.
• Right to work in the UK and enhanced DBS on Update Service or willing to apply.
• Professional child-related references covering the last two years.

Responsibilities

• Delivering pre-planned lessons and learning activities in the absence of the class teacher.
• Providing targeted 1:1 and small group interventions to help students reach their full potential.
• Working closely with teaching staff to support lesson delivery and student progress.
• Monitoring, recording and reporting on student attainment and behaviour.
• Supporting students with additional learning needs and adapting activities where required.

We are recruiting on behalf of secondary schools across Sunderland seeking dedicated HLTAs to support teaching and learning across KS3, KS4 and KS5. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced education professional to play a key role in supporting student achievement, delivering interventions and leading learning activities across a range of subjects.

About the Role:

• Supporting students aged 11-19 across KS3, KS4 and KS5.
• Delivering pre-planned lessons and learning activities in the absence of the class teacher.
• Providing targeted 1:1 and small group interventions to help students reach their full potential.
• Working closely with teaching staff to support lesson delivery and student progress.

Experience, Qualifications and Requirements:
