Job summary

Prospero Teaching is seeking a dedicated learning support assistant to work in a Darlington secondary school, supporting students aged 11-19 across KS3 to KS5, and leading lessons in the absence of the teacher.

You will deliver targeted interventions, support learners with additional needs, monitor progress with teachers, and help maintain an inclusive, engaging classroom. DBS Update Service or willingness to obtain one is required; hours are 8:30am–3:30pm, Monday to Friday.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience working within a secondary school setting.
  • HLTA qualification or equivalent educational support qualification is desirable.
  • Experience delivering interventions and supporting whole-class learning.
  • Confident managing groups of students and leading learning activities.
  • Strong communication, behaviour management and organisational skills.
  • A proactive and flexible approach to supporting teaching and learning.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a wider school team.
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Hold an enhanced DBS certificate on the Update Service or be willing to process a new application.
  • Professional child-related or care-related references covering the last two years.

About the role:

Pay, Hours and Contract:

Pay: £17 - £19 per hour (depending on experience and qualifications)

Hours: 8:30am - 3:30pm, Monday to Friday

Contract: Full-time, temporary position with the potential to become permanent

Start Date: September 2026

Location: Darlington
