Job summary

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting for a Band 5/6 Biomedical Scientist to join the Rotherham Histopathology team on a fixed-term 12-month contract. The role involves rotating through histology sections, maintaining CPD, and supporting quality and accreditation processes.

The successful candidate will contribute to high-quality diagnostic services, adhere to SOPs and safety standards, and develop professional skills within a modern UKAS-accredited laboratory.

Qualifications

• Band 5 & 6 IBMS accredited degree in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent.
• HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist.
• Commitment to complete and maintain Mandatory Training and required Laboratory competencies.
• Completion of IBMS postgraduate registration portfolio or equivalent.
• Commitment to complete the relevant Specialist BMS IBMS portfolio.
• Band 6 IBMS Specialist Diploma in a relevant specialist subject.
• Commitment to continuous professional development to maintain HCPC registration.
• Evidence of continued CPD including relevant courses with regards to H&S, leadership, quality or training.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a portfolio of evidence supporting Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
• Responsible for scientific and technical service delivery within the Histopathology services section of the laboratory.
• Perform range of scientific procedures involving processing of biomedical specimens to contribute to diagnosis and monitoring of diseases.
• Interpret complex diagnostic tests to support diagnostic reports.
• Conform to SOPs, Health & Safety procedures, departmental policies and good laboratory practice; comply with UKAS and other regulatory bodies.
