Job summary

NCIC is seeking an Laboratory Associate Practitioner (band 4) to join Histology at Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle for a 12-month fixed term/maternity cover. The role supports Biomedical Scientists and pathologists in preparation and processing of tissue for histological diagnosis.

Key duties include tissue embedding, microtomy, small biopsy transfers, and performing tests per protocol. The post offers NHS benefits and a 37.5-hour week within a centre of excellence for rural and remote healthcare.

Qualifications

• NVQ 3 in laboratory practice or equivalent.
• Foundation degree in laboratory practices, or equivalent.
• Willingness to work in a histology lab and follow protocols.

Responsibilities

• Support biomedical scientists in the day to day activities of the laboratory.
• Performing laboratory tests according to protocol.
• Interpreting routine results and acting accordingly within agreed protocol.
• Embedding of tissue.
• Microtomy of tissue.
• Small Biopsy Tissue Transfer.
