Job summary

Warwickshire County Council is seeking an experienced Civil Engineer to lead the S278 Highways Team within Engineering Design Services (EDS). The role focuses on developer-funded highway improvements, junction upgrades, and active travel projects to improve road safety and connectivity across Warwickshire.

You will lead engineers and technicians, manage projects, engage stakeholders, and ensure delivery to standard while overseeing fee proposals and compliance with safety policies.

Responsibilities

• Direct and manage a team of Engineers and Technicians.
• Build strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders; communicate effectively.
• Solve complex technical and logistical problems.
• Coordinate S278 works with other design disciplines (e.g., traffic signals, structural designers, street lighting).
• Manage projects to ensure delivery using internal processes, standards, and safety policies.
• Prepare fee proposals for S278 works; discuss with Developers/Clients and handle costs.
• Provide project management for work packages let to consultants via the framework.
• Prepare reports for the Service Manager or Head of EDS.
• Balance competing priorities in local authority infrastructure delivery.
• Remain composed in challenging situations and exercise sound judgement.
