Job summary

Amey is seeking a Highways Maintenance Operative to support Area 7 highway works. You will conduct pre-site visits, assess labour, plant, equipment and access needs, and help prepare activities with the delivery teams.

The role involves working with supervisors, pre-works coordinators and planners, maintaining records and supporting winter maintenance and call-out operations when required. A full UK driving licence is essential.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of highway maintenance operations and best practices.
• Strong health and safety awareness and regulatory compliance.
• SMSTS qualification and familiarity with Construction (Design and Mangement) Regulations.
• Experience using CAT and Genny equipment.
• Ability to interpret statutory utility drawings.
• Full UK driving licence and good planning skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform pre-site assessments for traffic management and civil works.
• Determine labour, plant, equipment and materials for planned works.
• Identify and confirm access arrangements.
• Place material orders and coordinate resources ahead of works.
• Communicate with supervisors, planners and teams to ensure smooth delivery.
• Maintain accurate paperwork and digital records.
