Job summary

Balfour Beatty is seeking a General Operative to support highways maintenance across East Sussex. This hands-on role involves carrying out a broad range of activities, installing highway assets, and working safely to a high standard.

You'll join a team delivering vital infrastructure for communities, with training opportunities, on-call rotas, and a commitment to safety and professional conduct.

Qualifications

• Experience carrying out highways maintenance activities.
• NRSWA qualification.
• First Aid at Work.
• Full clean driving licence.
• Safe Digging qualification (CAT and Genny).
• Plant tickets.
• Chapter 8 training.
• Plant awareness.
• Abrasive Wheels training.
• Manual Handling training.
• Basic computer skills and confidence using handheld devices.

Responsibilities

• Carry out a broad range of highways maintenance activities safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
• Install and maintain street lighting, signposts, bollards and related assets.
• Undertake excavation, backfilling and other general highways maintenance tasks.
• Complete work instructions issued via handheld devices.
• Work within health, safety and environmental requirements at all times.
• Stop work if unsafe to proceed; participate in on-call rota when required.
• Support winter maintenance activities as part of a rota.
