Job Opportunity: Highways Maintenance Operative

First Military Recruitment is currently seeking a Highways Maintenance Operative on behalf of one of our clients.

You will play an important role in the installation of temporary traffic management, highway maintenance works, and will be vital in operations. This role includes road safety improvements, active travel schemes, civils works, drainage works, road gritting, routine maintenance, and cyclic activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Undertaking all aspects of highway maintenance, including routine and cyclic activities, civils, and drainage works.
2. Driving and operating vehicles and plant, ensuring vehicle checks, routine maintenance, and cleaning are completed.
3. Performing winter maintenance, including emergency call-outs and standby duties.
4. Keeping records, including drivers’ hours and necessary paperwork.
5. Ensuring safety for yourself and others, complying with health and safety legislation, and operating safely to protect the public.
6. Carrying out vehicle checks before shifts and correctly filling defect books.
7. Attending project and work briefings as required.
8. Maintaining records, completing paperwork, and liaising with employees, subcontractors, emergency services, police, the public, clients, and customers.

Skills and Qualifications:

1. Previous experience in similar roles such as groundworks, civils, plant operations, and HGV driving is preferred.
2. Self-motivated and proactive in delivering solutions.
3. Desirable: valid HGV Class 2 license.
