Job description

Your New Role

We have fantastic opportunities for Permanent Highway Maintenance Operatives to join our NMC North East Account in Dundee.

Our NMC NE Account, awarded to us in 2022, supports Transport Scotland. This account aims to deliver improved service levels to the trunk road network, ensuring consistent, predictable, and reliable journeys for road users. Work includes maintenance, road safety, bridges and structures, and discrete improvement schemes, aligned with Scottish Government’s climate change and sustainability targets. We will also implement an enhanced winter and incident response service, improve communications, and adopt new technologies for better management of trunk network assets and maintenance activities.

The Highway Maintenance Operative plays a key role in constructing minor and major civils schemes and routine maintenance activities.

The standard hours of work are 39 hours per week, Monday to Friday. The role involves overtime, participation in on-call rotas, and night shifts when required.

You will be responsible for:
  • Undertaking all aspects of highway maintenance works, including drainage, kerbing, and other civils schemes.
  • Leading a squad and working closely with other gangers.
  • Completing scheme records such as daily site diaries and measurement records to a high standard.
  • Driving/operating vehicles and plant, ensuring vehicle checks, routine maintenance, and cleaning.
  • Winter Maintenance, including emergency call-outs and standby duties.
  • Prioritizing safety for yourself and the team.

What makes this role unique is: If you join our team, you’ll have the opportunity to focus on the parts of your role you most enjoy—whether it's further training, building client relationships, or developing leadership skills. Our collaborative environment supports your career development.

It would be ideal if you have previous winter experience and a valid HGV Class 2 license. HGV training can be provided for suitable candidates.

Previous civils, trade, or street works experience is desirable to help you start strong.
