Job summary

Coventry City Council is recruiting two Highway Apprentices to learn highway maintenance and construction while working with the Highways Operations & Development Department on footways, carriageways and drainage across the City.

You will undertake a Level 2 Highways Maintenance Skilled Operative apprenticeship, travel to college on a week‑long block release, stay in a hotel provided by the Council, and work outside in all weathers as part of a fixed‑term 18‑month programme.

Qualifications

• Interest in Highway Construction and Maintenance
• Willing to undertake a Level 2 Highways Maintenance Skilled Operative apprenticeship
• Willing to work outside in all weathers and be reliable and punctual
• Good communication skills and ability to work on own initiative and in a team

Responsibilities

• Learn to pave, lay kerbs, rake tarmac and install drainage as part of highway maintenance work.
• Work as part of a team to construct and maintain footways, carriageways and drainage across the City.
