Job summary

VolkerHighways is offering an Early Careers Apprenticeship in West Sussex, starting October 2026. You’ll join project teams, learn on site while pursuing a Level 2 Highway Maintenance apprenticeship, with college blocks and overnight accommodation provided. No prior construction experience is required, full training and support will be given.

You’ll work full-time, 45 hours per week, with a clear path to a permanent role and company benefits including pension, discounts and generous annual leave.

Qualifications

• Interest in construction and working outdoors.
• Positive attitude, good timekeeping and safety focus.
• Flexible to early starts, night work, weekends and shifts.
• Willingness to obtain a CSCS card.
• Full training and support provided for apprenticeship.

Responsibilities

• Support project operations such as kerb laying, footway works, drainage repairs, asphalt and patching works, general civils and groundworks.
• Learn to carry out tasks safely and to the required standard.
• Use tools, plant and equipment safely with training and authorisation.
• Attend training blocks and apply what you learn back on site.
• Follow health, safety, wellbeing and environmental procedures.
• Keep work areas tidy and safe.
• Report hazards, near misses or unsafe conditions.
• Represent VolkerHighways professionally on site.
