Police Vetting- You will be required to undertake a Greater Manchester Police vetting process.
Casual Car Documentation - The successful candidate will be a designated Casual Car User which means that car journeys may be necessary on an occasional basis, but are not essential to the role. If you do drive, you must always hold a full valid driving licence and provide your own car for use at work, as well as provide all the appropriate documentation. You will receive an allowance per mile of business use.
We have an exciting opportunity to become part of the Network Management team within the Highways team.
You will be carrying out full visual inspections on live roadworks in line with the GMRAPS scheme inspections.
You will be required to plan your routes and schedules in order to maximise your daily inspections and provide day to day support and query resolution to the Permit Officers, Co-ordinator and Management.
Manage day to day coordination tasks- i.e. Early entry, traffic management with the statutory undertakers- Liaising with the Traffic and Events officer where required and ensure compliance with all necessary Highways systems and processes and to undertake any other inspections as required such as Section 74, 3rd Party, FPNs and Permit conditions.
You will also be required to undertake such additional duties as are reasonably commensurate with the level of the post.
You should be computer literate with some experience in Microsoft Office software as well as possessing a full Driving licence and use of your own car for business purposes

The Event and Network Coordination Team assess and approve any proposed works on the Manchester City Council Network via the Greater Manchester Road Activity Permit Scheme and you will be working in one of three designated area's: The City Centre and Key Route Network, North and Central Manchester and the Airport and South Manchester. The role advertised is a position in the South of Manchester and Airport Area.
The team work to promote Manchester as a place to live, work and visit; facilitating development and investment in the city centre, and encouraging businesses to relocate here, supporting the creation of new jobs, homes, infrastructure (including transport infrastructure) and facilities.
The team works with a wide range of partners in the public and private sector, and other local and national stakeholders, to ensure an integrated and comprehensive approach to achieving Highways objectives. We are looking for individuals ideally with a highways background and experience of works coordination along with experience in stakeholder and contractor engagement.
You will also have excellent written and verbal communication and influencing skills; a track record of building effective partnerships and working with senior managers and Elected Members; the ability to understand, assimilate and communicate complex information in a non-technical way; and be able to work well under pressure.
The ideal candidate must possess strong IT skills, be able to use their initiative, prioritise own workload and have the ability to work as part of team in a fast paced environment.
Communication Skills: Is able to effectively transfer key and complex information to all levels of staff, adapting the style of communication as necessary and ensuring that this information is understood.
Analytical Skills: Ability to absorb, understand and quickly assimilate moderately complex information and concepts and compare information from a number of different sources.
Ability to engage with stakeholders to identify information needs and to know how to go about obtaining the relevant information.
Planning& Organising: Demonstrate the ability to organize multiple tasks in the most effective way, and allocate time and energy according to task complexity and priority.
Problem Solving and Decision Making: Is able to make effective decisions on a day-to-day basis, taking ownership of decisions, demonstrating sound judgement in escalating issues where necessary.
Creative Skills: Ability to think creatively and provide innovative solutions to problems. Has ability to develop new approaches to finding solutions outside of existing parameters.
Research and Intelligence: Ability to research information from a variety of different sources and present in a variety of formats.
Administrative Skills: Ability to develop and maintain effective systems in a rapidly changing environment.
ICT Skills: Ability to use multiple applications, systems and associated software packages
A background in network coordination and knowledge of specific highways legislation is desirable but not essential
