The Vacancy

Up and Under Ltd, a member of the RSK Group, is an engineering consultancy specializing in inspections and surveys of bridges, buildings, and other structures within transportation, utilities, and the built sectors. We are offering full-time, permanent positions for Bridge Inspectors/Examiners based in Crewe, Cheshire.

Our projects are nationwide, allowing for hybrid work options from home or one of our offices across the UK.

Responsibilities

1. Inspect various structures, including those of national importance.
2. Lead inspection teams.
3. Prepare reports, drawings, and defect schedules.
4. Undertake complex, one-off projects.
5. Adhere to our quality, health, and safety standards, complying with ISO.
6. Work in a hybrid setting, with site visits as required, including travel across the UK.
7. Work may include night and weekend shifts with overtime pay.

Essential Requirements

1. Experience in bridge inspection or maintenance (Highways or rail experience preferred but relevant structural inspection experience considered).
2. Understanding of construction materials and methods.
3. Proficiency in office IT skills: Word, Excel, databases, CAD, web research, email, file management.
4. Organized, focused, and capable of motivating others.
5. Interest in engineering fundamentals and ability to communicate effectively.
6. High-quality report writing skills.
7. Knowledge of investigation methods for common construction materials.
8. Valid UK driving license.
9. Physical fitness to walk on rough terrain, use ladders, and work in adverse weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

1. HND or NVQ in a relevant construction discipline.
2. EngTech, BICS (Inspector), STE03/04/05/07 certifications.
3. Candidates working towards or holding Bridge Inspector Certification Scheme (BICS) or Network Rail STE levels.
4. Successful candidates will undergo drug and alcohol screening.
