Job summary

WSP in Norwich is seeking enthusiastic and capable Highways Engineers to join our integrated Highways Design Team. You will work on live projects from concept through to construction, with hybrid working in Norwich and required site attendance as needed.

You will collaborate with experienced engineers and managers, deliver high-quality designs, and contribute to safety and infrastructure improvements across Norfolk's transport network.

Qualifications

  • Experience delivering highway or civil engineering projects, within consultancy, contractor or local authority environments.
  • Knowledge of highway engineering principles, design standards and construction practices.
  • Experience using industry-standard design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, AutoTrack, MicroDrainage, InfoDrainage or similar.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary teams.
  • A proactive approach to professional development, health and safety, and supporting the growth of colleagues within the team.

Responsibilities

  • Developing and delivering highway schemes through the full project lifecycle, from feasibility and design through to construction and completion.
  • Producing high-quality engineering designs, technical documentation, cost estimates and contract information in line with relevant standards and requirements.
  • Managing your own projects and work packages, ensuring delivery to programme, budget and quality expectations.
  • Working collaboratively with clients, contractors, stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams to develop and deliver successful project outcomes.
  • Providing technical support and mentoring to technicians and junior colleagues, while promoting safe and sustainable engineering solutions.

We are seeking enthusiastic and capable Highways Engineers to join our integrated WSP / Norfolk County Council Highways Design Team based in Norwich.

Our long-standing partnership with Norfolk County Council combines WSP's global technical expertise with the Council's proven ability to secure investment and deliver infrastructure that makes a real difference to local communities. Together, we deliver a diverse programme of highway maintenance, active travel, safety and improvement schemes that help shape the future of Norfolk's transport network.

As part of our continued growth, we are recruiting for multiple positions within our integrated WSP / Norfolk County Council Highways Design Team. We are keen to hear from talented highways professionals across a range of experience levels.

These roles are an excellent opportunity for engineers who are looking to take the next step in their career and play a key role in delivering projects that improve the lives of communities across Norfolk. From day one, you'll be trusted with real responsibility, working on live projects that progress from concept through to construction. You'll work alongside experienced engineers, project managers and technical specialists in a collaborative environment that actively supports professional development and progression towards professional qualifications. These roles are based in Norwich, with hybrid working available. Office attendance will be required as necessary to support project delivery, collaboration and client engagement.

Your main responsibilities will include:

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…
  • Experience delivering highway or civil engineering projects, either within a consultancy, contractor or local authority environment, with a desire to develop your technical and project management skills.
  • Knowledge of highway engineering principles, design standards and construction practices, together with the ability to develop practical engineering solutions.
  • Experience using industry-standard design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, AutoTrack, MicroDrainage, InfoDrainage or similar.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary teams.
  • A proactive approach to professional development, health and safety, and supporting the growth of colleagues within the team.
